JP: Technical Analysis

Blood Orange - I'm Sorry We Lied - Coastal Grooves

From this video I have learnt that many of the shots in music videos involve the lead singer, for example in this video, I would say about 90-95% of all the shots in the video include the artist, who poses as the protagonist in the video. Due to the fast-paced, electronic quality of the music, the video has a fast cutting rate to match, with most of the shots in the video being only one or two seconds long. However, in many music videos like this, the camera movements would be fast to support the fast cutting rate. This video only uses slow pans or tracking shots for movement if there is any movement at all, which kind of juxtaposes with the fast cutting rate and fast pace of the music. The rule of thirds does not really apply to this video, as in almost all of the shots, the characters are positioned centre-screen, unless it is a two shot. There are also no transitions in the entire video, the shots just cut to the next ones immediately.
